Research Policy

We will research queries that have a Macon County Connection.

1. DGS MEMBERS RESEARCH: For DGS Members, a fee of $20.00, payable in advance, for up to 2 hours research by the Research committee.

2. NON-MEMBERS RESEARCH: For Non-members, a fee of $30.00, payable in advance, for up to 2 hours research by the Research Committee.

3. INFORMATION WE REQUIRE: To ensure better service, we need you to send what specific information such as names, dates & places you have.

4. OUT OF HOUSE RESEARCH: An extra $10.00 is required, per trip, for research at Decatur Public Library, the courthouse, or local cemeteries. You will also be billed "at cost" for certified documents issued at the Macon County Courthouse. As of January 2023, costs from Macon County: Death Certificates - $27.00 each; Marriage Certificates - $23.00 each; Birth Certificates $23.00
